Huawei introduced the Huawei Y9 (2018) with 18:9 display, four cameras, massive battery

The Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has introduced the Huawei Y9 (2018), a new, affordable mid-range smartphone in Thailand, which makes it clear that the company wants to be serious with its announcement to be fully on 18: 9 displays.

The Huawei Y9 (2018) is basically a derivative of the current Huawei Mate 10 Lite and Honor 9 Lite models. It comes with a 5.93-inch IPS LCD, which offers an FHD + resolution with 2160 x 1080 pixels. The panel is accordingly held in the slightly stretched 18: 9 format and should offer a good image quality thanks to IPS and a fairly high resolution.

Huawei is determined to go with the flow and adopt the new 18:9 display trend. The company’s new mid-range smartphone offers not just such a screen, but also a gigantic battery. Seen as something unusual not long ago, 18:9 displays have become the norm these days, so it will be interesting to see what other parts of a phone will suffer such modifications in the coming years. Hardware-wise, the handset is quite decent since Huawei included an octa-core Kirin 659 processor, 3GB RAM, and 32GB expandable storage.

Huawei Y9 (2018) drains energy from a massive 4,000 mAh battery and it’s not even thick at 7.9mm. On the back, the smartphone features a dual-camera setup (13MP+2MP), while in the front it comes with a similar configuration (16MP+2MP). Another positive aspect is that it runs Android 8.0 Oreo (EMUI 8.0 included) right out of the box. The phone has a fingerprint sensor on the back side, which is made out of metal.

For the pricing are currently no information, but it is considered likely that the device should be offered for the equivalent of around 200 €.
